According to Sunday World, Bonang Matheba has scored one of the biggest deals in her career. As she might be taking over from the current host of Full Circle 9-12 Siphokazi January on the country's biggest commercial radio station MetroFM. The news comes soon after Queen B announced her departure from youth radio station YFM.
As expected, the new brand ambassador for BIC Flexi-Lady razors denied any knowledge of the developments.
"No one has spoken to me about opportunities at MetroFM. The only meeting I know that I am going to have with the SABC next Wednesday is about my work on SABC3," she said.
SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago said MetroFM's new lineup had not yet been finalised.
"There are many things that get considered before a lineup can be finalised," he said.
"Many people have been spoken to, but that does not mean anything is confirmed at this stage.
"That Bonang is joining MetroFM remains a rumour."
A top SABC executive, who spoke on condition anonymity, told Sunday World that Matheba will replace Siphokazi January, the host of the 9am-noonFull Circle show, from April 1.
MetroFM chose Matheba's brand power to remedy the ratings lost since Azania Mosaka left for PowerFM, the insider said.
"It appears that we've lost audiences since Azania left. There is a feeling that she took her listeners with when she went to Power.
"We needed someone with the presence and reputation like Bonang to go to war in that precious slot.
"You must remember that the nine to 12 slot has evolved from just a housewife's show in which cooking and knitting tips are given.
"It is now a prime spot for an upwardly mobile female and a modern or metrosexual man magazine format.
"We needed someone who is relevant and knows what the latest trends with South Africa's hip and happening are.
"Bonang is that type of person. She does not only know more about the audience in that range, but is a living example of that type of listener. the go-getter, the achiever and a modern city girl," explained the executive.

PHARRELL COVERS GQ’S 2014 APRIL ISSUE
On the Oscar snub:
“Well, trust me: when they read the results, my face was…frozen. But then I thought about it, and I just decided just to…let it go.”
On the criticism his album cover for G I R L received:
“It’s insecurity. You can be anything that you want to be, and what I chose to do is put my friends on the cover. The girl that was closest next to me is black, but they didn’t know that, so they jumped the gun. And it’s like: ‘Yo, you don’t need nobody to represent you. You represent you. You represent the best version of who you could be. You go out there and change the world.’ Because I’m black, and I wouldn’t trade my skin color for nothing. But I don’t need to keep wearing a badge that tells you that I’m black every time I do something! I’m black! My mother’s black, who’s a big part of my business; a black woman runs my business; and I’m married to a black woman. What more do you want?”
“It doesn’t make sense to me. That kind of divisiveness is not necessary at a time when we’re supposed to be unifying. That’s what happiness is all about, and if you look at my ‘Happy’ video, I had everybody in there: fat, skinny, gay, straight, purple, polka-dot, plaid, gingham print, houndstooth, alien. I fuckin’ had dogs in there! I had children in there! I had kids in there! I’m the most indiscriminate person that there is! I believe in equality.”
“Black ain’t a color: black is a spirit, and it is ubiquitous. In fact, there’s more black out in space than there is stars. We have nothing to be insecure about.”
On Hilary Clinton being the next president:
“Let me tell you why Hillary’s going to win. Everywhere you go in this country, you have red and blue. You got the Democrats; you got the Republicans. You got the Bloods; you got the Crips. You know what else is red and blue? Blood. Blood is blue in your body until air hits it, and then it turns red. That means there’s unity. There’s gonna be unity. So when you think about a night where there’s late-night talk-show hosts and it’s mostly women, that’s a different world. Right? A world where 75 percent of the prime ministers and the presidents were women: that’s a different world. That’s gonna happen, and it’s gonna happen when Hillary wins. Because you know what? No matter how staunch of a supporter you are of no-abortion, whatever you are: you’re a woman, and there’s no way in the world you’re going to vote for somebody that’s going to try to tell you what to do with your body. Hillary’s gonna win. Listen, I’m reaching out to her right now. She’s gonna win.”
On the Tea Party:
“The Tea Party guys? The guys with the n***er jokes in 2014? They’re all trying to learn how to do the Dougie. Please. While their daughters are all twerking. Trust me: Miley tells me all the time. Not saying that about Billy Ray, but I’m saying Miley tells me all the time: all those little girls, all those girls with their Republican daddies, they’re twerkin’ somewhere listening to Jay Z and Beyoncé and doin’ the ‘Happy’ dance. And that’s black.”
On being misunderstood:
“I’m not a renaissance man. What I am is a maverick, and I don’t want to be put in a box at all.”
On when he moved out of his parents house:
“Uh, when I finally got tired of sneaking girls in. And it was more than one girl, you know, coming to hang out with me. So it was kind of like—you know, I didn’t want to do that to my mom.”
On his infamous buffalo hat:
“Anything different, people are going to look at and go, ‘Ha ha ha ha, what is that??’ Then, after a while, they do a little bit of research; they realize it’s Vivienne Westwood, an ode to her boyfriend at the time; they had a store together called World’s End. The guy who went on to sign the Sex Pistols, Malcolm McLaren.”
On if he regrets the trucker hat:
“No. Uh-uh. I always did the same thing. I’ve dressed like I make my music. With the trucker hat, it was just a different time. And it was just N.E.R.D. time for me, you know? And that’s what we represented—like, the anti-media image. We represented the real: black kids that skated.”
Chanel Iman covers the latest issue of Net-A-Porter’s “The Edit.”
Source:net-a-porter.com
Born in Atlanta to an African-American basketball coach father and a half African-American, half Korean flight attendant mother, Chanel Iman Robinson started modeling at the tender age of 13. By the age of 18, the strikingly beautiful chick became one of the youngest Victoria’s Secret models in the company’s history...and had already landed her firstVOGUE cover.
In the magazine, the “Yonce” video model (who is currently dating rapper A$AP Rocky) opened up about racism, growing up fast in the modeling industry and Beyonce’s girl power.(theybf.com)
Here are the highlights:
On racism:Photos: Paul Maffi/Net-A-Porter.com
“It’s an issue that my industry is still working on,” she says, a picture of LA cool in a tie-dye tank top and pajama-style pants, a tiny Chanel bag sitting like a coveted pooch on her lap. “I think that everyone should be equal; it shouldn’t be about color. It’s unfortunate that there is still a lot of politics involved in both the acting and modeling worlds. I do think we’ve come a long way, but things could still be a lot more diverse on the runway and in films.”
On having to grow up fast:
“I’ve had to grow up very fast, and although I know that if I hadn’t started so early I wouldn’t be where I am today, I often wish that I could have had those high-school years and experiences,” Iman says. “These days I always encourage young models to start no younger than 18.”
“There were times when I felt very lonely,” the model admits, “because I had to be a grown-up and live in New York by myself – but God blessed me with the opportunity to be a model and I took it. Still, it’s very easy to get caught up and lost and not feel loved in this business.”
