New Michael Jackson album XSCAPE featuring eight new songs is to be released in May

A new Michael Jackson album featuring eight new songs is set to be released.

Epic Records boss L.A. Reid has teamed up with a host of top producers to 'contemporise' songs by the King of Pop – who died in June 2009 aged 50 – as part of a new record which will be released on May 13 and called XSCAPE.

The Estate of Michael Jackson has provided L.A. with unlimited access to four decades of Michael's material.

The music mogul, who will executive produce the record, said: 'Modern music and artistry would look and sound completely different if not for the groundbreaking contributions Michael Jackson gifted to the world.

'Michael left behind some musical performances that we take great pride in presenting through the vision of music producers that he either worked directly with or expressed strong desire to work with. We are extremely proud and honored to present this music to the world.'

Timbaland will act as the leading producer on the album, while Rodney Jerkins, Stargate, Jerome 'Jroc' Harmon and John McClain will also produce the record.
