NFL’s First Openly Gay Drafted Player, Michael Sam For OUT Magazine’s August 2014 Issue





Michael Sam wrote history when he made a decision to come out as gay months ahead of the NFL player draft. Regardless of his declaration the former University of Missouri defensive got drafted into the NFL by the St Louis Rams’ for a deal worth $2.65 million.

It’s been a good year for Michael Sam as he put some achievements under his belt; he has been tagged as rewriting sports for a new generation of athletes, Oprah made moves to tap him for a docu-series for OWN network, he made the list of Power LGBT for 2014 and more. Now, the 24-year-old athlete is on the cover of OUT magazine’s August 2014 issue.

The latest issue of the magazine is tagged “#249: Michael Sam and the Draw That Changed American Sports Forever”. For the cover shot Michael Sam is photographed by Richard Phibbs and styled by Grant Woolhead.Michael Sam is obviously already enjoying the perks of professional stardom, including an award from ESPN and a lucrative deal with Visa, despite never having played a minute of professional football.
